Frequently asked questions and answers.

How does columnly.io work?

columnly.io is a tool that helps you clean your data. It allows you to upload a CSV, Excel, JSON, Parquet, XML, or text file and apply plain-language rules to each column to clean the data. No code required.

What file types are supported?

columnly.io supports the following file types: CSV, Excel (XLSX and XLS), JSON, Parquet, XML, and tab-delimited text (.txt).

What happens if my Excel file has more than one sheet?

You'll be asked to choose which worksheet to work with before your file is processed. Only one worksheet can be cleaned per upload; if you need another one from the same workbook, upload the file again and choose it.

What are the different rule types?

How do I export my data?

You can export your data in the following formats: CSV, Excel, JSON, Parquet, XML, and tab-delimited text by clicking the "Export file" button in the top right corner of the screen. You can also customze the delimiter when exporting to CSV.

Can I reuse my cleaning steps on a future file?

Click "Save as Workflow" after cleaning a file to save your steps under a name you choose. Today that saves the steps themselves for reference; running a saved workflow automatically against a new file is on our roadmap and not yet available.
